Obituary of Sophie Z. Fagan

Sophie (Zarotney) Fagan, 101, of Kensington, died Monday (August 10, 2015) at Ledgecrest Heathcare in Berlin. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on Sept. 26, 1913, the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Zisk) Zarotney, she lived in Northhampton, MA and New Britain, before moving to Kensington. She was the widow of Robert R. Fagan. She attended Sacred Heart School in New Britain and Berlin Schools and received an Associates Degree in Art from Central Connecticut State College (now University). Sophie was a member of St. Paul's Church and had been a member of it's choir for many years. She has also sung in other choirs and choral groups in the area. She was a retiree of Aetna Life Insurance Co. of Hartford. Prior to that, in the 1950's , she and her husband owned and operated "Fagan's Variety Shop" on Main St. in Kensington. Mrs. Fagan is survived by her sister Charlotte Bedient of Berlin and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers and one sister, Stanley, Bruno, Joseph, Aloysius, and Henry Zarotney, and Mary Miller. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (Aug.12, 2015) 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church Kensington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Church 479 Alling St. Kensington, CT 06037. Sophie's family would like to thank the staff of Ledgecrest Heathcare for their excellent care of Sophie.
