Obituary of Mildred Chatfield-Hopke

Mildred Chatfield-Hopke, died Friday, June 26, 2009. Born in 1918 in New York, she lived in New Britain since 1946. She moved into Arden Courts in Farmington in 2004 where she resided until her death. She graduated from Albany State University and was a social worker at NBGH and a school social worker for the New Britain School System. In addition she was a longtime volunteer at the New Britain YWCA, a member of their Finance Committee for many years, and a co-founder of the Handicapped Swim Club at the YWCA. She was also an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
She was predeceased by two husbands: William D. Chatfield and William Hopke and her niece Shannon Chatfield.
She is survived by four children: William D. Chatfield, Jr. of Plainville, Cheryl A. Chatfield and her husband Gene A. Chasser of Burlington, Janet E. Chatfield and her husband John Zeaman of Leonia, NJ, and Mary C. Jones and her husband Morgan Mahon of Farmington; three grandchildren: Bryant Chatfield and his wife Beth Chatfield of Avon, Claire Zeaman and Alex Zeaman; two great great grandchildren: Brandon Chatfield and Sydney Chatfield. She is also survived by two sisters Jean Gorczyca of kings Park, Long Island and Roberta Cade of Malone, NY and a niece and nephew.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain from 11:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. There will be a private Memorial Service and burial at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Britain YWCA 22 Glen Street
