Obituary of John F. Hammer

John F. Hammer, 80, of Plainville passed away Sunday at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at Bradley Memorial. Born in Plainville, July 11, 1928, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Fischl) Hammer. John worked in the production department at General Electric before his retirement and also enjoyed working at the Kummer Orchard for many years. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. John was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville and a member of the Austrian Donau Society Singers.
He is survived by his sister Margaret Hammer of Southington and close friends, Peter, Robert and Karen Kummer, all of New Britain. John was predeceased by his brother, Carl Hammer. John's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Plantsville for the care and compassion that was extended to John during his stay there.
Friends and family are asked to go directly to Our Lady of Mercy Church, Plainville on Friday for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain on Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donau Club Scholarship Fund, 545 Arch St, New Britain, CT. 06051.
