Obituary of John J. Dziekan

John J. Dziekan, 95, a lifelong resident of New Britain died March 14, 2009 at an area convalescent home after a brief illness. He was the widower of Mary (Karlonas) Dziekan. Born in New Britain, November 24, 1913, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anastasia (Karbonic) Dziekan. John was employed by the Litton Industries in New Britain for over 44 years before his retirement. He was a longtime member of the New Britain Lodge of Elks #957 and was proud to have been awarded as an honorary lifetime member of the Indian Hill Country Club in Newington. He was also a longtime communicant of St. Maurice Church. Mr. Dziekan is survived by his three children, Dr. Richard J. Dean and his wife Margaret of Branford, Janice M. Cravens of Fullerton, Calif, and John A. "Jack" Dziekan and his wife Lisa of Cheshire; his seven grandchildren, Christopher Dean, Rebecca Dickinson and her husband Jeffrey, James Dean, Jonathan Dziekan and his wife Erin, Mary Lombardi and her husband Davide, James Cravens and Jennifer Daly and her husband Jim; a brother, Stanley Jackman of Salinas, Calif and is also survived by four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Angela Shevchuk and Helen Nizelski. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at The Highlands Health Care Center of Cheshire for their care and compassion that was extended during Mr. Dziekan's stay there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Rd, New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq, New Britain on Wednesday morning from 9-10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA of Central Connecticut, 205 West Main St., New Britain, CT. 06052.
