Obituary of Raymond M. Lavoie

Raymond M. Lavoie (Peanut, Frenchy, Shorty) husband of Rena (Martin) Lavoie for 43 years, died Friday at Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born April 12, 1942, in Hamlin, ME, the son of the late Antoine and Fabriola (Beaulieu) Lavoie, he lived most of his life in New Britain. He was pre deceased by his only son Darryl Lavoie in 1991. He was employed for thirty three years at Comcast as a construction supervisor. Ray was involved with many clubs and organizations and was always willing to lend help whenever he could. He was the former president of the French Model Club of East Hartford; was a member of the French Model Club in New Britain; the St. Jean De Baptiste Society in New Britain; the Veteran's Commission; a member of the New Britain Lodge of Elks #957; a member of St. Peter's Church and St. Peter Society; member of the Franco American War Veterans Post 26, in which he was Past State Commander, Past National Commander and Past Post Commander. Ray was very active at St. Peter's Church, helping with breakfasts and picnics. He also did the same for the St. Jean's Breakfasts and ran the bingos for the Franco American War Veterans for many years. Among his hobbies, Ray liked to play cards, especially solitaire and do cross word puzzles. Over the years, Ray was teased by his friends because of his height and being so small, he will be missed dearly by all. In addition to his wife Rena, Ray is survived by four sisters and five brothers Germaine and Grady Allen, of New Hartford, Clifford Lavoie, Mariette Adams, Robert and Fern Lavoie all of West Hartford, Frank and Rinette Lavoie and Muriel Dubay all of New Hartford, Jackie Hayes of Newington, Kenneth and Margaret Lavoie of Canton, Arthur and Janet Lavoie of New Hartford; also sisters in law and brothers in law, Corine Lavoie of Middletown, Rose and John Charette of Van Buren, ME; Priscilla and Dick Carrier of Palm Bay, FL, Pauline Martin of Van Buren, ME, Robert and Pauline Martin, Grand Isle, ME, Edna and Ray Nadeau of Sabattus, ME, Dorine Martin and her longtime companion Fern Gendreau, Rachel and Conrad Parent of St. Anne, De Madawaska, Canada, Judy and Norman Grivois, Lewiston, ME; many nieces and nephews from Maine, CT, Florida, PA, New York, MA, Canada and Arizona. He is also survived by three God-Children Carol Dominque of Greene, ME, Gregory Hayes of Newington and Dennis Martin of St. Leonard, Canada. Funeral services will be held Thursday 9:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Peter Church, 98 Franklin Sq. New Britain, CT 06051. Members of St. Peter's Society will meet Wed. 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home for a prayer service. The Elks Lodge #957 will meet Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. for a ritual for Ray at the funeral home.
