OBITUARIES Brenda (Gaffney) Hedenberg, of Southington, formerly of New Britain, died Friday Night at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born in New Britain the daughter of the late Hon. Leo and Ruth (Boylan) Gaffney, she lived most of her life in New Britain, moving to Southington five years ago. She attended local schools and then graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Noroton, CT, graduated from Trinity University in Washington, DC and received her MS and Reading Certificate from CCSU in 1971. She taught school in Meriden and at Lincoln School in New Britain and later taught reading at St. Ann's Middle School in New Britain. At various times she volunteered for the United Way, the YWCA Girls Club, Fun Run for Education and was as Assistant Leader in the Camp Fire Organization. She taught CCD at St. Maurice Church for fifteen years, and was also a Lector there. She served on the Parish Council for four years. She was a three time Past President of the Repertory Theatre of New Britain and appeared in various productions there over the years, as well as working backstage. She was also a Corporator of the New Britain Boys and Girls Club and served on the Finance and Scholarship committees and recently, volunteered at the New Britain Museum of Art. She was also, a member of the Shuttle Meadow Country Club for many years. Brenda is survived by her husband, Ralph Hedenberg, and there children Ruthann Fainer and her husband Joseph and their six children Joseph, Megan, Sarah, Erin, Brendan and Kiera of Thomaston; Ralph Hedenberg II and his wife Laura and their two children Aislyn and Casey of Burlington; and Lynda Kayleigh and her husband Edward of Bristol; two sisters Pat Bowers and Judy Gaffney both of Newington and several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at St. Maurice Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 538 Preston Ave. Meriden, CT 06450 or to St. Maurice Church 100 Wightman Road New Britain, CT 06052.
