Obituary of Salvatore Bernardo

Salvatore J. Bernardo, 93, of New Britain, died Thursday (May 26, 2016) at an area convalescent home. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Nello and Louise (Frugale) Bernardo, he was a lifelong resident. He worked for the City of New Britain for 32 years, was the executive vice-president of Local 1186 and was the municipal employee representative. He served on the Civil Service Commission. He had also been employed by the Corbin Ave. Bus Line. His wife, Katherine (Minderline) Bernardo predeceased him Nov. 8, 1999. Sal is survived by his son John Bernardo of New Britain, a granddaughter, Sarah Louise Bernardo; two grandchildren, Makayla Baker and Shawn Rodriquez and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Julia, Ann, Rose, Carl, John, Katherine, Mary and a brother in law, Howard Messenger. Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday (May 31, 2016) at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Church, North St. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
