Richard M. Huber, 63, of New Britain, died Sunday (April 26, 2015) at St. Francis Hospital after battling a long illness. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Frank and Eda (Gombatz) Huber, he was a lifelong resident and a graduate of New Britain High School. He was a self employed painter, having grown up in the business with his father. A longtime member of St. Peter Church, he was one of the founders of their Oktoberfest and served as chairman. He was also a member of St. Peter Society and the Austrian Donau Society. Ricky is survived by his loving sister Janice Washburn of New Britain, his longtime companion Ursula Gmeindl of New Britain, his niece Eileen Washburn and her husband John Magel of Wethersfield; a nephew Scott Huber of Louisiana, his niece Jennifer Huber, of Connecticut; his special family David, James and Leanne Gmeindl; many cousins and friends, especially Charlotte, Nora, Avery and Jenny who called him "Uncle Ricky"; and two Godchildren, Kyle Kummer and Laurel Pickard. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Eileen B. Huber and his brother Frank J. Huber. Rick's travels brought him to favorite places with good friends, such as the Dominican Republic, Las Vegas, Florida, and summers at Bashan Lake. He loved planting his garden tomatoes, listening to Austrian music, singing karaoke, and watching the Kentucky Derby. Funeral services will be held Thursday (Apr.30,2015) 9:00AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Church 98 Franklin sq. New Britain. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Church. Members of the St. Peter Society will meet at 6:30 PM at the funeral home for a prayer service.
