To the family of Msgr. Bergin & Sister Maura Joseph, It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of Msgr. Bergin from a friend I called in Naugatuck, CT on Monday. I now live in Tacoma, WA but grew up in Oakville, CT and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High in Waterbury. I have known Msgr. Bergin since my high school days in the 60s and attended many deaf meetings and Masses with my parents, Frank & Mary D'Ambrose in Waterbry, ICDA conventions and Mass at Mercyknoll. Msgr. Bergin seemed to cover the state of CT tirelessly working with the deaf people who loved and needed him. He will be so missed. When my dad became ill, he and Sister Maura appeared at my parents' house, at St. Mary's Hospital, Yale Hospital and Abbott Terrace. I didn't call and ask him to come, but he continually appeared. I appreciate all he did for me and my family and the deaf people of Connecticut. We continued to keep in touch with a note at Christmas and my request that he say a Mass for my parents. He had a life well lived. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as well as Msgr. Bergin.

To the family of Msgr. Bergin and Sister Maura Joseph It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Msgr Bergin when I returned from a trip to Maine. We have known Msgr. Bergin for almost 40 years and during ten of those years I taught religion classes on Wednesday at ASD. I learned so much from him, about Religion and about deaf culture. Msgr Bergin presided at the funerals of two of our children, Jonathan in 1981 and Gene in 2001. My husband and I will be forever grateful for the words of Faith and Wisdom he brought to us during those most difficult times. We will keep him in our prayers. Carol & Mike Guay, Meriden CT

I extend my deepest condolence on the loss of Monsignor Bergin. I worked with him at The American School for the Deaf and have known him for several years. He was a wonderful person who helped me with my signing. I will really miss him.

Dear Carol and Jim, and family, I have known Bob since our seminary days atSt. Mary Seminary in Roland Park, MD. I was two years ahead, and ordained in 1960. In 1968, when I was appointed Director of Special Education for the Diocese of Bridgeport (including the Deaf Apostolate), I contacted Fr. Bob for guidance. He always remained my mentor and good friend. In my early years in the apostolate, I would journey to ASD and asist him in the Religious Ed program. We jurneyed to many ICDA meetings, and the gatherings of the New England Workers for the deaf. He and his close co-worker Sr. Maura Joseph were always ready to help me and we shared our events with the Catholic Deaf clubs. I have always considered him my friend. He was truly a role model for me as a priest and in his unfailing loyalty and consistency in the ministry with the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Because of his expert and fluent ability with ASL and sign language, I used his services and his teaching in many ways. Truly, he was one of my life's "heroes." I am broken-hearted that he is not with us, but look forward to our reunion in heaven. Father Peter De Marco Queen of the Clergy Residence 274 Strawberry Hill Avenue #103 Stamford, CT 06902-2773
