GRACE O. INGERSON
GIVEN LIFE ON 15.OCT.1922,
RIDGEWOOD NJ.
PASSED THURS. 25TH 2014
Her married life started in 1945. My husband Robert and I moved into our present home in Kensington in 1949. One of the only reasons we moved here is that the property was near a great golf course, Shuttle Meadow Country Club. Bob was club champion and runner-up nine times and he was a scratch golfer. All my life, I've dabbled at it, I was pretty good, I played with the women 18 holers and the nine holers too. My short game was better than my husband's.
In 1951, our house was getting bigger. We were blessed with two great boys, Bob Junior and Kerry. In 1954, Bob Junior was diagnosed with e. coli meningitis by New Britain General Hospital and subsequently was left deaf epileptic. So my mission from then on was to take care of my little boy all his life .He has since past but had a perfect attendance record at his favorite job at Acme Monaco company New Britain.
In my youth I graduated from high school Ridgewood, New Jersey and went on to earn a graduate business degree at Katharine Gibbs School in New York City, I still needed something more though and I studied and received a real estate broker's license and worked for Barrows& Company out of Wethersfield, Connecticut. I stayed there for 10 years but I still wanted more.
I became interested in the Berlin Peck Memorial Library on Main Street in Kensington, Connecticut. For many of years I volunteered my time and was very happy and was subsequently hired and got paid Wow... I made money for the first time. It was small but grew , 32 years with my friends, including Mr. Devlin a great friend, Andrew Fal ,and many others. This was my favorite job that got me away from the house, away from the depression.
I lost my first love several years ago, my husband Robert died of Parkinson's disease I was horrible. Then a few years later, Robbie my little boy died of a brain tumor.
Robbie never missed a day at work. He couldn't drive a car so he rode his bike with flashers on his helmet, almost every day to work. It didn't matter if there was snow on the ground. Robbie just kept going. He would leave the house at 5 AM, go down Corbin Avenue, up Steel St. on his bike. How he ever climbed that hill and then go down the other side, was puzzling to me. He had great strength and great kindness, he got that from Grace. He has since never been replaced. I'm sure they're being kind.
While working at the Peck Memorial Library, she was very interested working at the front desk, reading and meeting the little ones with their moms and dads coming to the library. I'm sure all who met her like her smile and her greetings.
She also loved her prize purebred Chihuahua, Ladybug, who was a big comfort to her and kept her busy. She walked 2 miles a day, around the block with Ladybug. She loved to play on the computer, playing Bejeweled Three, which is a funny little game. She was up to 47 billion points twice over the last several years. That's where life ceased, Monday at 11 AM with a stroke. The one thing she feared the most was that she didn't want to be a burden on anyone. She was always outgoing, always smiling, never saying a bad thing about anyone only to help anyone she could. As a son. I'm going to miss her greatly, her smile, her kisses, and our nightly hugs. A kiss on Ladybug's head and off we go to bed. Grace is finally at rest.
