Mary (Mathy) Macke, 71, of Newington, beloved wife of John Macke, passed away on April 25, 2008 after a courageous battle with CBGD, a rare neurological disease. She was born on February 27, 1937 in Apatin, Yugoslavia, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Theresa (Solak) Mathy and emigrated to Vilshofen, Germany in 1945. In 1952, she came to New Britain, CT where she met her husband and together they settled in Newington, CT. In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her children Anita Macke of St. Augustine, FL, Bruce Macke and his wife Diana of Kensington, CT, Joann Wilson and her husband Stephen of Ludlow, VT and Wayne Macke and his wife Sybille of Burlington, CT; her adored grandchildren Michael, Madison and Thomas, as well as countless friends and other family who will miss her dearly. A graduate of St. Mary's School in New Britain, Mary was a supervisor in the Personal Lines Division at Aetna for nearly 20 years. She was an avid gardener, a great cook and always appreciated a good joke. She was also a member of the Donau Club's German Junior Women's League.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at 9:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Church, New Britain. Burial will follow in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, April 28th from 4-7 PM.
