Obituary of Mary H. Meaney

Mary H. "Mae" Meaney, 87, of New Britain, died January 14th at The Jerome Home. Born in Hartford, the daughter of Irish immigrants Michael and Helen (Connole) Meaney, she attended St. Joseph's College serving as president of her class for most of that time. Upon graduation, she moved to New York and worked in executive positions at Macy's and Helena Rubenstein in their Human Resources Departments. She returned to this area in the 60's, she made her home in New Britain, and served with distinction as Director of Human Resources at New Britain General Hospital (now The Hospital of Central CT.), retiring in 1988. Following that, she was active in community organizations, she served as a Trustee of the New Britain Library for several years. Although recognized as a leader in her profession, she will be equally remembered as everyone's favorite "Auntie Mae". A parishioner of St. Maurice Church, she was devout in her religion, and worked quietly and compassionately to help anyone in whom she sensed a need. She is survived by her sister Margaret Kane and a nephew Thomas Kane of St. Paul, MN, a sister-in-law Barbaree Meaney of New York, and a multitude of friends from all walks of life. She was predeceased by her brother John Meaney, a nephew Michael Kane, and her beloved niece, Lauren Meaney.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 9:00 from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Maurice Church 100 Wightman Road, St New Britain. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the funeral home In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's College 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117, or to the charity of the donors choice. The family would like to thank the kindness of the staff at The Jerome Home in New Britain.
