OBITUARIES
Elizabeth (Der Hoosigian) Yagoobian, 98, of New Britain, died Sunday Night at home after a short illness. Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1908, her parents, she and her brother Nerses returned to Armenia. She and her brother were orphaned due to the Genocide by the Turks of the Christian Armenians in 1915. She spent her formative years in an orphanage until the age of 15. Relatives located her and sent for her return to America and she lived in Lowell, Mass. where she met and married her husband Paul (now deceased). They settled in New Britain and raised four children.
Elizabeth had a quiet elegance and generous nature to all she loved and met. She was an avid reader and discussed current events with great enthusiasm and clarity. She loved America and all it offered. Her love of flowers reflected in her Rose and Iris gardens.
Elizabeth is survived by her three daughters Charlotte Ohanesian of
New Britain, Rose Apkarian of Methuen, Mass, and Elizabeth Rightmyer of Farmington, CT, and a son Oscar Paul Yagoobian of Kensington, CT. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. Church services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection 1910 Stanley St. New Britain, CT. The burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Fairview Cemetery, New Britain, CT. The Farrell Funeral Home, Franklin Sq. New Britain is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection 1910 Stanley St. New Britain, CT 06053.
