OBITUARIES Joseph F. Lutkus of Kensington, lately of Covenant Village in Cromwell, passed away on Saturday, April 22nd, 2006. He was 82. Joe was born on June 2, 1923 in Cambridge, MA. of Frank Lutkus and Stella (Steponkas) Lutkus. He was predeceased by his wife Priscilla, his parents, and his sisters Anne Yurkus and Agnes Cargill. During WWII Joe enlisted in the Air Force branch of the US Army, serving in the Pacific theater of operations. After the war he attended Northeastern University and graduated from the Rutgers Graduate School of Banking. He began his career at the New England Merchant�s National Bank in Boston where he met his future wife, Priscilla Bresnahan. Joe and Priscilla married in 1951. In 1954 Joe became a Bank Examiner for the US Department of Treasury and he, Priscilla, and their first child, Patricia moved to Connecticut, settling in Newington. In 1959 Joe took a position with the New Britain National Bank, rising to become comptroller and a vice president. He retired from Fleet Bank in 1988. Joe was active in the business community, most notably serving on the Board of Directors at New Britain General Hospital and Oak Hill School for the Blind. Joe was an ardent fan of the Boston (now Atlanta) Braves, the Boston Red Sox, and "his girls�-- the UConn Women�s Basketball team. He was an avid (some say obsessed) golfer and, for many years was Treasurer of the Timberlin Senior Men�s League. He also golfed and bowled with the Catholic War Veteran�s League. Joe received the Melvin Jones Award from the Berlin Lion�s Club where, for many years he served as Club and Fair Treasurer, and managed the Premium Office during Berlin Fair time. Joe leaves his daughter Patricia Miller and her husband Richard of Berlin, CT., his daughter Diane Stadterman and her husband, Richard of Madison, CT, his son Don and his spouse John Ciervo of Boston, MA, his grandchildren; Stephen Cabelus of Southington, CT, Suzanne Cabelus of Portland, CT, Andrew, Brian and Jill Stadterman of Madison, CT, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:30 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. at St. Paul�s Church, Kensington. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, New Britain. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
