Obituary of Edward A. Vaznelis

Edward A. Vaznelis, age 97, of Milford, formerly of New Britain, CT, died April 22, 2014 at Milford Health & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
He was born in New Britain on September 7, 1916 to Antale (Makimovtius) and Antanas Vaznelis. He graduated from Bristol High School and went on to attend Vanderbilt University, Ohio State University, and Morehead State University before graduating from Central Connecticut State University. He later studied at Western New England University School of Law.
He was an engineer at Pratt and Whitney, later United Technologies, for 39 years. He eventually rose to International Quality Program Coordinator for the Manufacturing Division and retired in 1987.
Ed was a college football player, world traveler, golfer, and sports enthusiast. He was a referee for the Central Connecticut Association of Football Officials. Ed was also member of St. Maurice Parish in New Britain and the Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington. He served on the Central Connecticut State University Alumni Board of Directors and the New Britain Redevelopment Commission.
Ed is survived by his daughter Sheila Griffin of Milford; his sister, Viola Sadin of Kensington, CT; his granddaughter Anne Griffin of Los Angeles; his grandson Morgan Griffin and wife Corey of Haydenville, MA; two great-grandchildren Ada and Alice Griffin of Haydenville, MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Annamae Crowley Vaznelis and his brother Albin "Ben" Vaznelis.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. at St. Maurice Church 100 Wightman Rd New Britain, Saturday, April 26th. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery 1141 Stanley St. New Britain. Visiting hours will be held at Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin New Britain from 11:00 AM until the Mass.
