The Reverend Harold David Heinrich, age 88, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
Father Heinrich was born October 2, 1925, in Southington, the son of the late Richard and Clara (Yauck) Heinrich. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from Saint Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, and Niagara University . He was ordained to the priesthood on May 10, 1956, by the Most Reverend Henry J. O'Brien, Archbishop of Hartford, in St. Joseph's Cathedral.
His first assignment as a priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford was in Saint Boniface in New Haven followed by assignments at Saint Michael in Waterbury, Our Lady of Fatima in Yalesville, and Saint Francis Xavier in Waterbury. Father Heinrich then served as Administrator of Saint Maria Goretti in Wolcott prior to being named Pastor of Saint John the Evangelist in New Britain on April 19, 1990, where he served until his retirement on October 1, 2001.
During his career, Father Heinrich served as Chaplain to the Waterbury Fire Department, State Chaplain of the Catholic Daughters of America for twenty years, Chaplin to the Boy Scout Troop #35, was a member of the Wolcott Commission on Aging and was Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus in Wolcott and New Britain.
Father Heinrich is survived by two nieces Martha Wachtel and her husband Richard of Clifton Park, NY; Cynthia House and her husband David of Westborough, MA; his nephew Theodore Schultz of Bedford, Texas; three cousins Evelyn Stelma of Plainville; Eleanor Zorn of New Britain; and Wilma Carreras and her husband Carlos, of Bristol; three grandnieces Alexandra Deegan, Sheridan Wachtel and Jessalyn House and a grandnephew Christopher House; and his very special friends Lillian, Paul and Peter Schulze.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Square, New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial for Father Heinrich will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 655 East Street, New Britain with the Most Reverend Christie A. Macaluso, Auxiliary Bishop of Hartford, as the principal celebrant. Burial will follow in Saint Thomas Cemetery, Southington.
