Obituary of Rita Foley

Rita A. (Poppel) Foley, 89, of New Britain, died peacefully Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Andrew House Health Care in New Britain. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Madeline (Burns) Poppel. She was a lifelong resident of New Britain and for the past twenty years she spent the winters in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She was the wife of the late William L. Foley. She attended St. Mary's School and was a member of St. Jerome Church. Rita had many talents including sewing, crocheting, crafts and painting. She enjoyed spending her free time reading. For many years she worked at Shuttle Meadow Country Club and Rockledge Country Club. She was a volunteer at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Florida. Rita is survived by her three sons, William and his wife Margaret Foley of Bristol, James Foley and his partner Joanne Ziemski of New Britain, and Thomas Foley of Rockledge, FL; her three daughters Kathryn and her husband Richard Baus of Jamestown, NY, Margaret and her husband Marc Nordgren of Barkhamstead, and Anita Kisluk and her partner Christopher Papa of Southington. She has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved dearly. Rita also leaves her sister-in-law, Irene Poppel of Windsor Locks and several nieces and nephews. Rita was pre-deceased by her three brothers, Edward, Rudolph and William Poppel along with her sister-in-law and lifelong friend Eleanor Nolan and her dear friend Dorothy McVeigh. Funeral services will be held Saturday (Feb. 8, 2014) 9:30 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Jerome Church 1010 Slater Road. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank the staff at the Andrew House for their care giving, warmth and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
