Two & half months ago I was home on a Thursday evening & received a call from NBGH asking if I knew William Tata. Little did I know how much that was going to change my life. Billy was my dad’s cousin & had asked me to be his health care advocate. He had been at the dentist that afternoon & was having trouble breathing so they had him brought to the ER. The next morning, the hospital called saying he was moved to ICU and put in a ventilator. For the next 10 days, I spent the afternoons with Billy, holding his hand & wondering what would come next. I also was in contact with my dad’s cousins I either didn’t know or hadn’t seen in a long time. When the doctors removed the ventilator, I was right there in case things didn’t go well. Fortunately, Billy surprised us all. Another week in the hospital & he was ready for discharge to a rehabilitation center.
Over the next several weeks & a couple of more hospital stays, it became apparent that Bill’s health issues were more severe than I realized & he would not be able to return to his home with his beloved flowers & tomatoes. These were difficult conversations we had, but Bill knew that I’d tell him what was best him, even if he didn’t what to hear it.
We had a great afternoon visit a couple of days before I left for Ireland. When the Hebrew Center called on August 2nd & told me how Billy had deteriorated, I was surprised. His lungs were filling up again & his kidneys were shutting down. I was shocked when Bobby called me the next morning to tell me Billy had passed. So sorry I’m not able to make it home for his funeral, but I know everything is under control with Bobby. We are a great team when family issues require it.
Rest in peace, dear cousin. You were one in million.
Love,
Jeanne

I always enjoyed talking to Bill at family gatherings.
In 1961 Nancy and I moved to Washington, DC. Bill was a student at Georgetown University. He took time to help us hunt for an apartment. We later enjoyed meals together.
Those were interesting days in the Capitol as a lot of history was happening.

A mass was said for our Uncle Bill Saturday, August 10 at 4:00 p.m. in Celebration, Florida at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, home church of Robert and Paula Tata. We celebrated Bill's life with fond memories and a meal at Reggiano's - of course a good Italian restaurant. We are grateful that all our local family was able to be there and our out-of-state family was there in spirit.

Memories flash back to childhood, gathering snails on the rocky shores of Giants Neck to adult adventures and meals at choice spots in CT during my biannual trips north.
Gone but not forgotten, love you always, cousin Nancy

I’ve known Billy my whole life but didn’t get to realize the kind of person he was until after the passing of my Mom in 2009. Billy reached out to his cousin Hank, my dad, and would take him out for lunches. Dad was very appreciative and so were we. After Dads passing Billy started joining Jean and myself for holiday dinners. Bill entrusted Jean to help with affairs. Unfortunately Jean was and still is in Ireland when the final chapter was opened in his life. I feel honored to have helped him through his final chapter
Say hi to Mom & Dad
Rest In Peace, Bill

Rich and Cele DiFusco were former neighbors of Bill in Rocky Hill. His very DRY sense of humor made Bill stand out from all others.
He enjoyed his BIRTHDAY MONTH and reminded us of it! I sent 3 Birthday cards--evenly spaced out for his month of celebrations. He spoke of his cousins and Birthday dinners.
The picture was captured when he visited with us in Boca Raton where we live now.
Lately he sent me small gifts of his homecake mini cakes, candy and mini bottles of liquors to help when and if times got too challenging!!?? haha
We will miss you,Bill.
Condolences to his family.

My Uncle Bill had a sparkle in his eye as he asked about the latest news about everyone. He asked the best questions and wanted to know everything! My best childhood memory was a family trip to Connecticut and Uncle Bill showing us his Spring Green car. I have no memory of what kind of car it was but he loved the color. Sarah, Kate and I took a Northeastern trip one summer when Dave was opening a new ride at Universal. We had time in Connecticut but Uncle Bill had other plans. But that didn't stop him! He drove to meet us in Rhode Island for a lovely seaside lunch.
We love and will miss you Uncle Bill.

Uncle Bill was my beloved Godfather and best pen pal. Great Uncle to my daughters Gwendolyn and Annemarie and Grand Uncle to my grandchildren Matilde and Gideon. He took great joy in his rose bushes and tomato plants and gifted everyone the fruits of his labor. He was dearly loved and will be missed
