Obituary of Joanne M. Heckman
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Joanne M. Heckman on July 1st, 2024. Joanne was the daughter of the late George and Veronica Heckman and was predeceased by her sister Mary McCormack. She leaves behind fond memories that will be treasured by her family and all those who knew her. Joanne attended New Britain school’s program for special needs.
She participated in Unified Sports, Special Olympics, CCARC programs and Handicapped Swim Club at the YWCA of New Britain. She worked at Kaestle Boos Architectural Firm, for 22 years and volunteered for many additional programs. Joanne enjoyed traveling with family and friends and later with her special care giver Flora Weber of West Hartford. She enjoyed many church services and functions throughout the area with her mom and cousin, Mary Jo Zabrensky.
Joanne is survived by her brothers and sisters David and Sandy, George, Pat and Tom, Jim and Adri, Maureen and Joyce Feeney, Eileen and Benedict, Kevin and Karen, Tim and Joanne, and Brian, 18 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 5th, 2024 at 10AM at St. Paul’s Church, 485 Alling St., Kensington. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in New Britain. Visitation will be from 8:30-9:30AM at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CCARC, 960 Slater Rd., New Britain, CT 06053.
