Obituary of Joseph A. Lippia

It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of Joseph Antony Lippia on Tuesday May 28, 2024. Joseph was born on March 4, 1933 to the late Helen and Anthony Lippia. Although he was raised in Plainville Joseph spent most  of his life in New Britain.

Joseph served four years in the United States Air Force. Joseph was a member of the Plainville Knights of Columbus for many years. He sponsored his own baseball team for many years in Plainville.

Joseph was a self employed home builder and operated under the name of T. Lippia & Son building many custom homes off of Unionville Avenue in Plainville. Later he worked for the town of Plainville in the Building & Maintenance Department. He was a member of Saint Joseph’s Church in New Britain.

Joe was predeceased by his two loving sister. Elizabeth (Betty) Pizzola and her husband Gennaro (Jerry) Pizzola and Joanne Blackston and her husband Howard.

Joseph had a very special relationship with his God child and nephew Brian Smoliga. He considered Brian his ‘second’ son. Joseph loved to attend Brian’s baseball games and never missed one of them.

Joe is survived by his wife Patricia (Walicki) Lippia. A son Michael and Maria of Middletown, a sister-in-law Elaine Yurko of New Britain, a nephew Brian Smoliga of Middletown. He is also survived by his niece Diane (Pizzola) Bonney and her husband William of Southington along with many great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday June 5, 2024 at 10:30AM at St. Joseph Church, 195 So Main St. New Britain. A military burial will follow at State Veteran Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
