Obituary of Johanna Z. Davis
Johanna Z. Davis (Joey) 95, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 10th, surrounded by the love of her entire family. She was proud of her Austrian heritage and even more proud to be a New Britainite. She graduated from NBHS in 1946, married her sweetheart Bill in 1949, and worked at New Britain Machine in the payroll department before raising her four children. Johanna is predeceased by her parents Karl and Anna Zinky who emigrated from Austria; her sisters, Anne Dehan, Caroline Jacoby, and Mildred Kuehn; and her loving husband William (Bill) Davis.
Among her passions were baking, reading crime novels, and jaunts to the casino with her BFF Irene Gaber and later with "her girls". She loved playing LRC and dominoes with her grandchildren and treasured countless Saturday nights of playing cards and many adventurous travels with her husband and her best friends, Irene and Harry Gaber. Most cherished was time spent with her family, whether at the Kelsey Street homestead, East Beach, RI or at all of the Gaber picnics.
She is survived by her son Attorney Karl W. Davis, of Burlington and his wife Juliana, her daughter Heidi Calderone of Berlin and her husband Scott, her daughter Nancy DiPietro of Berlin and her husband Angelo, her daughter Gretchen Davis of Berlin, and her former son-in-law of 25 years John Burns. Johanna loved her eight grandchildren Sarah, Jill, Jack, Anthony, Nicholas, Rachel, Amanda, and Melissa; her three great grandchildren Kailyn, Brooke, and Michael; and her many nieces and nephews. She loved everyone "more" as she put it. She was blessed to receive the most loving and dedicated care from Iris, her angel, her friend, her "favorite", making the end of her life here with us most peaceful.
