I would like to start by offering my condolences to Chuck's family. Throughout my law enforcement career, Chuck was always one of my biggest supporters. Not only was Chuck a good mentor to me, he was also a good friend. Chuck was also part of a small group of southern Illinois police chiefs that helped foster enhanced professionalism, progressiveness and training into law enforcement throughout the entire state. To this day, police officers throughout Illinois are still reaping the benefits of those enhancements.

When I looked up the word "Friend' in the dictionary it said "Chuck McDonald". Chuck and I were fellow Rotarians in Edwardsville IL since 1986 and grew to be friends after that. During the Rotary Annual Citrus sale, he graciously helped my wife Joan and I deliver ATT's large citrus order in downtown St. Louis, with only one request- that Joan get him a triple-shot espresso from Cafe Breve. We attended numerous Cardinal Baseball games together and Chuck regularly invited some of his friends from Rotary and the law-enforcement community to attend the annual University of Illinois and Missouri Bragging Rights Basketball Game, usually paired with a meal at Chuck's favorite Italian restaurant, Cunetto's on The Hill. Chuck, I will miss you, my friend!

Chuck was the man who put the Southern Illinois University Police Dept on the path to becoming a professional Law Enforcement agency. Through his leadership S.I.U.E. Police Dept gained respect with other agencies throughout the State of Illinois. I had the pleasure of being a friend and pier of Chuck serving with him on many boards through our careers together. His Legacy will long be remembered in the State of Illionois as a dedicated Police Executive who worked hard to advance our profession. Thank you, Chuck, for your hard work and efforts !!

Heartbroken to hear of Chuck's passing. We hadn't been in contact since he and Pat moved from Edwardsville but my love for him never waned. I have to say what all who knew him know: he was the best friend a person could have. He would a friend what he thought and support that friend whether he agreed or not. His professional competence and achievements are a given. It was the kind of man and friend he was that will insure his place in our hearts and in heaven. He will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him.

Pat & family I’m so sorry for your loss. The year Chuck was Rotary President was my first year as a board member. Every year at this time I thought about Chuck and the bragging rights game between Illinois & Missouri. I really missed Chuck when he left but I know he’s at peace. Take care!

Chuck was a good friend and colleague during my time at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville but most important he was a dedicated and highly professional head of the campus police department. Fortunately, I saw him at statewide meetings for several years after we both left SIUE. His friendship was warm and genuine. My sincere sympathy to his wife Pat and extended family. John Jennetten

Chuck was certainly one of a kind! Few can say they left the world a better place than when they arrived. Chuck strived every day to accomplish that task. He tirelessly worked toward professionalizing the field of law enforcement and was one of the most generous people imaginable. Pat was the love of his life who he adored. Sending love and peace to Pat and the McDonald family. Our sympathies are with you during this difficult time.
