Obituary of Lucien Daigle

Lucien Daigle, 91, of New Britain, loving husband of Adrienne Daigle, passed away on July 10 at the HOCC.  Lucien was born in Upper Frenchville, ME and was the last surviving child of the late Rene and Marie (Martin) Daigle. Lucien moved to New Britain at 17 and worked several jobs before his employment at D&D Builders, a construction business owned by his brother Val, where he learned all phases of home construction. Shortly after starting there, he took a leave to serve in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, was proud of his military experience and honored to serve his country.  Upon discharge from his 3 years of service, he returned to D& D Builders for another 15 years before his employment with the Public Grounds department for the town of Plainville until retirement.

Lucien was an incredible man – a talented craftsman, a friend to all, an endless willingness to give a helping hand, a fun and kind demeanor, and a fierce love of family!  He enjoyed camping, dancing, playing cards, and he took great pride in his membership in the Franco-American War Veterans of New Britain and St. Jean Baptiste Society of New Britain, where he built/renovated the building, was recognized as “Man of the Year” in 2012, and worked at Bingo for more than 10 years. His patriotism was evidenced in his unwavering commitment to Veteran’s activities which included marching in Memorial and Veteran’s Day parades, wreath laying, and numerous volunteer events. He was also a faithful member of St. Maurice Church in New Britain for 60 years and volunteered his time and skills in many of the church’s projects.

In addition to his wife Adrienne (of whom he was married to for 65 years), he is survived by four children and their spouses; Garry and Joan (Diskin), Jim and Sandy (Lagasse), Patti and John D’Onofrio, and Jason and Lorraine (Moody) as well as nine grandchildren:  Victoria and Garrett Daigle, Amy (Daigle) Lambeck, Kerry, Cody, and Riley Daigle, Michael and Tyler D’Onofrio, and Caleb Daigle, and 3 great grandchildren:  Maddie, Everett, and Lily.  Lucien was predeceased by his eight siblings: Esther Raducha of New Britain, Theresa Jambard of Berlin, Jeanne Bensmiller of Nevada, Val Daigle of Berlin, Reno Daigle of RI, John Daigle of Bristol, Bernie Daigle of Middlefield, and Paul Daigle of Middlefield.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 14, at St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Rd, New Britain at 11 am, burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening, 5-7 pm, at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain.
