Obituary of Dorothy Ann "Dottie" Parlow
Dorothy “Dottie” Ann Parlow, nee Pock, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 6th greeted by an incredible sunrise. She was 91 years young. Born in New Britain on September 6th, 1931, she attended Central Jr High and New Britain High School. She lived most of her life in the East End where she raised her family in a great neighborhood with many families, full of kids. She started her career working for the City of New Britain in various positions and retired with over 30 years of service. She was an incredible typist and enjoyed the company of her work-acquired friendships. She also worked for Lord & Taylor for over 20 years. Everyone knew to go see “Dottie” in the Better Dresses Department if you wanted to look like a million bucks.
In her retirement years, she never slowed down. Mom took great pleasure in keeping in contact with her lifelong friends, traveling to visit her children, summer vacations at Hawk’s Nest Beach, tending to her flower garden, sitting in the sun, reading the latest novel, and enjoying a cup of tea with her favorite cookies. Always impeccably dressed, Dottie was truly a remarkable woman that created so many fantastic memories for her family and friends to remember her by.
She leaves behind her beloved children and their spouses; Alan (son) and Suzanne Parlow of New Britain, CT, Dawn (daughter) and Bill Doyle of Lynnwood, WA, Shari (daughter) and Chris Lopez of Ojai, CA, and Lori (daughter) and Don Kullas of Ingleside, IL. She also leaves behind her grandchildren - Lindsay Smolka (and her wife, Jill Carr) of West Haven, CT, who shared an incredible bond with her Grammie and took great care of her in her final years, Nicholas Smolka of Bothell, WA, Jillian Lopez of Santa Barbara, CA, Samantha Fabretti of New Britain. She also leaves behind her brother, John Pock, of Florida, several beloved nephews, a niece, their children, her godchild, Pat Ludwikow, and so many outstanding friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Josephine Pock, her brother Joseph Pock, her wonderful sister, Laura Atkinson, her nephews Michael Atkinson and Mark Parlow, and her precious little boy, Eric Wayne Parlow.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff, especially Louis Wadson, at Seacrest Retirement Center in West Haven for so many great memories, but most importantly, for making our Mom/Gram feel so loved, safe, warm and comfortable the last three years. A special thank you to Nicole, Patti, Nikie and so many more from Constellation Hospice Care.
