Obituary of Mary Louise Mancini

Mary Louise (Ptacosky) Mancini was born in New Britain on June 4, 1936 to Gwendolyn (Bragg) and Edward Ptacosky.  She passed peacefully on February 6, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. After graduating from New Britain High School in 1954, Mary Lou went on to work at First National.  It was there that Mary Lou met the love of her life, Angelo. They were married in 1956 and had 59 and a half wonderful years together.  Mary Lou was a stay at home mom until she thought her children were old enough for her to return to work.  When she returned to work, she worked at St. Justin’s Rectory in Hartford and then moved on to the New Britain Board of Education in Accounts Payable. 

Mary Lou loved to travel with Angelo and their best friends, Gerry and Dick Tucker, do volunteer work, read, and spend time with her family.  She was a member of St. Maurice Church where she was a lector for many years and was a member of Suburban Women’s Club of Greater New Britain.  Mary Lou volunteered for many years at the Race in the Park, the Petit Race, and in the gift shop at the Hospital of Central Connecticut.

Mary Lou loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She loved hosting family holidays and getting everyone together for birthdays or any time there was reason to celebrate.  Mary Lou was a kind, generous person and a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there when we needed her.  Even in her last days, she seemed comforted when family and close friends surrounded her.

Mary Lou is predeceased by her husband, Angelo Mancini, her parents Gwendolyn and Edward Ptacosky, her son-in-law Stephen Grega, her brothers-in-law, Loren Kahn and Michael Mancini , and her sister-in-law, Sue Grant..

Mary Lou leaves three daughters, Carin Mancini, Beth Mancini Goldsnider and her husband, Craig, and Janice Grega-Mals and her husband, Ronald and her sister, Sheila Kahn.  In addition, she leaves her grandsons, Stephen Grega and his fiancé, Lisa Kawecki and Andrew Mals and his girlfriend, Taylor Gauthier. Additionally, she leaves her sister-in-law, Jeanne Mancini and very special cousins in Maine-Peggy and Gary Cowan and Robin Bragg.

Funeral services will be held Monday (Feb. 13, 2023) 9:30 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Katharine Drexel Parish (St. Maurice Church)  100 Wightman Road. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral Home.

Mary Lou’s family would like to thank her care giver, Jane, for taking care of her for the past fourteen months and Trinity Care Hospice staff, Marnee, Yazmin, and Tammy  for the care they provided to Mary Lou and the entire family.  The family appreciates all of the visitors, prayers, and thoughts extended to us during the past year and a half.
