Obituary of Florence G. Gabes

Florence Gajek Gabes, 92, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021. She was the beloved wife of John M. Gabes for 67 years. Florence was a graduate of New Britain High School. Prior to starting a family of her own, Florence worked for the Fafnir Bearing Company. Thereafter, for many years she worked as a cashier in the New Britain High School Cafeteria. While her children were of school age, Florence was very active in the Parent Teacher Organization in Berlin.
In her spare time, Florence loved doing needlepoint work, knitting, and crocheting, as well as sewing. She thoroughly enjoyed spending summers with family and relished family vacations in Lake George, New York. Florence was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Kensington. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.
Florence is survived by her husband John Gabes of Kensington; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Judy Gabes; her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Mark Dymersky; and her grandchildren, Jayme Terrell and her husband Jeff, Phillip Gabes and his wife Kali, Nicole and Kristine Dymersky, all of Florida. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Gajek; her mother, Agnes Kwasniewski Gajek; her brothers, Stanley Kwasniewski and Mitchell Gajek; her sisters, Jean Ryglisn, Veronica Pointkowski, Martha Karpeij and Helen Chmielewski; and her first born son who died as a young boy, Phillip Gabes.
The family would like to thank the staff at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor for taking special care of Florence over the past year.
Friends and Family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday October 1st 2021 at 10:00AM at St. Paul’s Church, 485 Alling Street, Berlin, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the immediate family.
