My condolences to the Gacek family and friends.
I too am deeply saddened to hear of Paul's passing. I met Paul when I started working at YNHH back in 2004. He shared his many traveling and scuba adventures which inspired me to travel. Years later he encouraged me to get involved with the Credit Union...fast forward to 2018 where our paths met again when I had the pleasure of working alongside him on the HCFFCU Board of Directors. Rest in Peace Dear Paul.. Well done Sir well done.

So sorry for your loss. He was a beloved icon in the dive community and a good and true friend to us all. My daughters new him as the “big man” when they were toddlers. He was but in so many ways besides his height. He heart and soul were the biggest.
Condolences, Gene Bagnoli and family

I worked with Paul for many years at YNHH. He was a great boss with a wonderful sense of homor. I remember one Christmas I bought him a "Baa-Humbug" T shirt as a joke.(this was his favorite phrase when talking about Christmas) Every year we had a small Christmas party in our office. Paul always distributed the gifts. The year after getting the shirt, Paul asked us to wait before giving out the gifts. He took off his jacket and tie. Then he unbuttoned his shirt and opened it like Superman. Under his shirt was the "Baa-Humbug" T shirt. We all got hysterical. Him wearing that shirt when he gave out the gifts became the highlight of all our following office Christmas parties. I`m sure you`re bringing lots of laugh to everyone in heaven just as you always brought to me. Rest in peace dear friend.

We are very sad to learn of Paul's passing. We came to CT in 1990, having met (and later married) while playing in a community orchestra on Long Island. In 1991 we joined the Hamden Symphony, and loved playing under Paul's tutelage and baton for the next two years. We took a 23 years-long break to raise a family, then rejoined the HSO in 2016, several years after Paul had retired from the HSO. Almost all of the musical friends we now have in CT, and some who have moved away, have a connection to the Hamden Symphony; several of them go back to the years when Paul was conductor. We exchanged holiday cards with Paul for most of the past 29 years, and when he would inevitably show up for one of our concerts we made sure to say hello and express our appreciation of him. He was warm, witty, highly intelligent, and a great musician. He will be sorely missed.

So many of us worked for and with him at Yale New Haven Hospital in the late 70s, early 80s. So many precious memories. Two of us gave him the nickname of 'Condor' cause he would 'hover' over us now n then. He had two ' Condorett's', myself and Cindy White. Rest In Peace, Condor

Only met Paul face-to-face once, and just for a week. But, spending that time with him on a Cayman Islands liveaboard back in February 1999 was a wonderful experience, and we've remained in 'casual contact' ever since.
Pleased I had the chance to meet you, Paul - thank you.

Paul was a good friend. I so enjoyed all his diving adventures, his photos showed us all the beauty under the sea. He was kind, caring and so very thoughtful. He will be sorely missed by all he touched.

I am deeply saddened this loss. Paul was a good friend and mentor for many years at YNHH. He shared his abundant knowledge without reservation, and encouraged excellence in everything that effected patients. His extensive travels led me to learn about some exotic locals, and I traveled vicariously while I was homebound, raising my family. When my children were still young, he encouraged me to bring them to the Hamden Symphony, where they were exposed to extraordinary performances, and broadened their musical exposure and interest. I was blessed to have Paul in my life, and I will sorely miss him...his cynicism, his love, his joy, his understanding, and support have left many good memories and enriched my life.
My sincere sympathies to his family and friends.
