Obituary of William G. Woodward

William George Woodward, 88, died peacefully at the Jefferson House on Monday January 20, 2020 with family by his side. William or "Woody" as he was affectionately known, was born in New York City on June 2, 1931 the son of William and Grace Brooker. As a child he moved to Bridgeport and then to New Britain where he graduated from New Britain High School. He joined the Air Force and after an Honorable Discharge went to work as a lineman for Connecticut Light and Power. While working there he pursued his dream and became a Trooper with the Connecticut State Police. For 21 years he worked as a Trooper and Detective on the Statewide Narcotics Task Force and the State Police Major Crime Squad, where he investigated the 1974 Donna Lee Bakery Murders in New Britain.
After retirement he continued to work on the State Capitol Police force, and as an instructor at the State Police firing range. He loved boating and fishing and his hobby was raising tropical fish. For several years after retirement he owned his own tropical fish store called "Woody's Angels".
Mr. Woodward is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Dolores (Menditto) Woodward; their children William and his wife Linda Woodward; Patricia and her husband Attorney Steven Ludwikow, Jacqueline Dawson, and three grandchildren Steven, Emily and Michael.
The family would like to thank the Jefferson House staff and especially the Hitchcock unit for their loving and compassionate care for our father. Everyone made him feel special in his new home. A special thank you to Yomayra for always making Dad smile and taking such good care of him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday (Jan. 25, 2020) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Apostle’s Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church) 655 East St. New Britain, CT. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain.
