Obituary of Mary C. Medon
Mary Medon (Cubeddu) of New Britain, CT completed her journey on this earth, June 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her daughters and granddaughter. She was born in New Britain to Leonard and Theresa Cubeddu (Lombardo), the oldest of 3 daughters and attended local schools and Fisher Junior College in Boston, Ma. Mary worked at the family soda shop, the Miramar in New Britain where she met her future husband Frank Medon and other lifelong friends. Mary and Frank wed in Oct 1952. Mary worked as a secretary at CCSU (twice), retiring from there in 1993. She also worked briefly at NBHS and was very active at St Joseph Church in New Britain, serving as 2nd Vice President of the New Britain Council of Catholic Women, the Rosary Guild and the Parrish Council.
Mary’s greatest accomplishment was raising three daughters who were all college graduates, something she always wanted for herself. She was a wonderful, supportive mother who was proud to be a 1st generation Italian American. Mary and Frank purchased a summer cottage at West Hill Lake in New Hartford in 1994 where they enjoyed many summers in their retirement and made new friends.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Frank, sister Lillian Ragalis, son-in-law Jon Whitaker and a stillborn daughter Deborah. She leaves behind a sister, Elsie Brochu, three daughters; Laura Whitaker of Newington, Melanie Medon of Southington and Lisa Vanty and her husband Thomas of Berlin. She also leaves behind 3 cherished grandchildren; Matthew and Brian Rago of Spring, TX and Haley Vanty of Berlin. Mary also had a large extended family with many nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. and relatives and their families in Italy(Sardinia). She leaves a special niece, Janice Shannon of New Hampshire and many longtime friends she made along the way.
Funeral services will be held Friday (June 22, 2018) starting at 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church 195 So. Main St. New Britain. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
