Obituary of Helen J. Orzel
Helen J. (Rzasinski) Orzel, 96, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2018. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Orzel. Helen was born and raised in New Britain where she made her home, later moving to West Simsbury and Old Lyme. She resided at Bayview HCC for the past 3 years. Helen worked for the VA in Washington D.C. and Hartford and then transitioned to the City of New Britain Redevelopment Commission, retiring in 1988. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Church. Helen was involved in many church activities, and looked forward to the annual bazaar where she co-managed the car raffle. She served as president of both Sacred Heart Ladies Guild and the Polonaise Club throughout her many years as a member of both organizations.
Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind two sons Paul and his wife Christine, Philip and his wife Margaret; three grandchildren Christopher and his wife, Amy Orzel , Justine and her husband, Matthew Monahan, and Catherine and her husband James Miller. “Mimi” was the perfect great-grandmother to Riley, Liam, Parker, Hadley, Teagan, Theodore, Quinn and Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held Friday (Apr. 13, 2018) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church 158 Broad St. New Britain. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday morning from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Donations in Helen’s Memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church 158 Broad St. New Britain, CT. 06051. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Bayview Health Care for their special care and concern for Helen while she was there.
