Obituary of Kenneth M. Nobel Skoglund
Kenneth M. Nobel Skoglund, 93, of New Britain, affectionately call PopPop died Tuesday night (Jan. 23, 2018) at the Hospital of Central CT. Born in Newington, the son of the late Herbert and Hilda (Call) Skoglund, he lived most of his life in New Britain. Prior to working many years at Stanley Tools, he had worked at Skoglund Oil Company. A member of the First Lutheran Church, he was one of the founders of the New Britain Little League and coached the Phillies, was a member of the SVEA Club in Berlin, was an avid fan of UCONN Girls Basketball and the New Britain High School Baseball. He was also a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran.
Mr. Skoglund is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy (Marchetti) Skoglund, a daughter Joyce Ann and her husband, Roland Carignan of Old Lyme, two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Linda Skoglund, of Berlin, Thomas and his wife, Beth Skoglund of Salisbury, MD; 5 grandchildren, Blair and his wife, Marissa Carignan, Arley and her husband, Jay Pekrul, Kaley Shea Skoglund and her fiancé Kyle Roof, Trevor Skoglund and Emma Skoglund; 3 great grandchildren Nash and Noble Pekrul and Sloane Carignan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Herbert, Arnold, and Albert Skoglund.
Funeral services will be held Monday (Jan. 29, 2018) at 11:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery New Britain. Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church 77 Franklin sq. New Britain, CT 06051 or to the Audubon Society 1361 Main St. Glastonbury, CT 06033. The Skoglund family would like to thank the staff of the Hospital of Central Connecticut and Hospice.
