Carl “Charlie” Wallner, 91, of Rocky Hill, passed on to the Lord, Friday, February 10, 2017. Born June 11, 1925 in Greenfield, MA Carl was the son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Steinmacher) Wallner. Carl honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a true American. Carl worked for the State of CT in the Department of Labor for 36 years until his retirement. Carl was a longtime, faithful communicant of Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield.
A graduate of Boston College, Class of 1951, he earned a degree in Economics. Carl enjoyed traveling and weekly dinners with his nephew Fred. Carl was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. He is survived by loving nieces, Jane W. Detwiler and her husband Austin of Jupiter, FL, Susan W. Stern and her husband Mario of West Hartford, his nephew, Frederick W. Wallner, Jr. and his wife Anita of New Britain, niece Anne W. Green and her husband Gary of South Windsor, great nephews Joseph Stern and Michael Green, great niece Holly Stern and several cousins in the Greenfield, MA area. Carl was predeceased by his brother, Frederick W. Wallner, Sr. and his sister Anna Wallner. Carl’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Jerome Home, New Britain for their kindness and care of Carl in the last two years of his life.
Everyone is invited to a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Saturday (February 18, 2017) at Blessed Sacrament Church 221 Federal Street Greenfield MA. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Wisdom Way Greenfield, MA. There are no calling hours.
