Obituary of John J. Weber

John J. Weber, 74, of New Britain, died Thursday Night at Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Gustave and Anna (Tieber) Weber, he graduated from New Britain High School in 1955 and entered the U.S. Navy. Along with his late brother Bob, he co-founded Weber's Nursery, retiring in 1976 and went on to work at Precision Grinding for many years. He was a member of the Donau Society, the Berlin Sportsman Club, and Trout Unlimited, where he was a past president. He was an avid fly fisherman, loved to attend shows and sell fly fishing material under "John's Custom Tackle" and enjoyed craft shows all over New England with his wife. He loved skiing and hunting in Vermont, traveling with his wife to the Caribbean and Europe, going to the casinos, working in his two gardens and enjoying the companionship of his beloved cats.
John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Geraldine (Czarnecki) Weber; his daughters Eileen Weber of New Britain and Cheryl and her husband Robert Schaller, his grandchildren Jonathan, Sarah and Lauren, all of Berlin; a brother Richard Weber, a sister Alice Gleba and sister in law Patricia Weber all of New Britain, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Gustave, Carl, Fritz and Robert and his sister Annabelle Chapman. John will be greatly missed by his loving family and all those who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church (corner of East St. and Newington Ave.) New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Monday from 8:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
