OBITUARIES
Richard H. Smith passed into eternal rest Friday Jan. 7, 2011. He was born
March 8, 1928 to Vincent and Marguerite (Renshaw) Smith. He was predeceased by his two brothers, John (Jack) Smith and William R. Smith. All three were called Smitty. Richard was an avid Giants fan and loved animals, but his favorite was his Lhasa Apso "Kiki". He called him "the little guy". He was loved dearly by his family and liked by everyone he came in contact with. The sense of humor he had passed right down to his family. Richard also worked for Fafnir Bearing for 42 years and was a medical corp. medic in World War II. He leaves behind his beloved wife Lucia (Catanzaro) Smith, his daughter Donna, son Richard, two grandsons, Adrian and his fiancé Rosa and Tyree and his wife Julia; and three great grand children Jaylee, Adrianna and Branden. He also leaves five step grandchildren, Portia and Jaree, Adrian, Alex and Heidi. The Smith family would like to extend their thanks to the people of Brittany Farms HealthCare and the Hospital of Central CT for taking excellent care of him. Stubborn, but giving, he never turned his back on his family. For those who knew him, he was a special human being. A hard Irishman and still had many tender moments.
Funeral arrangements will be private for the family at the Farrell Funeral Home, Franklin Square, New Britain. He may not have gotten the Purple Heart in the Army, but he saved his children's lives many times over, so in our hearts, he deserved it. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Connecticut humane Society 701 Russell Road Newington, CT 06111.
