Veronica (O'Brien) Heckman, 95, of New Britain, passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, April15, 2016. Born in New Britain to the late Michael and Margaret (Carmody) O'Brien, Veronica was the loving and devoted wife of the late George B. Heckman for 44 years. Veronica lived all of her life in the New Britain area attending local schools and secretarial school. She worked at Stanley works as a secretary for a few years before her journey as the mother of eleven children enveloped her loving care.
Veronica was an active member of St. Mary's Parish of New Britain and St. Paul's of Kensington. She kept busy with raising her family along with her devoted husband George. Veronica volunteered for some time with CCARC of New Britain having her youngest daughter with special needs.
Veronica enjoyed many a church service and functions throughout the area with her daughter Joanne and niece, Mary Jo Zebrinksky. The three could be found at concerts at Walnut Hill Park, events in West Hartford and bus trips to the Mohegan's as well as many a family function. Veronica was pre deceased by her oldest daughter, Mary Margaret McCormack.
She is survived by her children: David Heckman and Sandra Davis of Berlin, George T. Heckman of New Britain, Patricia and Thomas Portante of Plainville, James and Adri (Miller) Heckman of Farmington, Maureen Heckman and Joyce Feeney of Cromwell, Eileen and Benedict Gagliardi of Berlin, Kevin and Karen (Murtha) of Rocky Hill, Timothy and Joanne (Jarecki) Heckman of Berlin, Brian Heckman of Pensicola, FL and Joanne M. Heckman of New Britain. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren: John Paul, Natalie, Katherine, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Brendan, Brianna, Gabrielle, Magge, Benedict, Ryan, Justin, Tyler, Jessica and John Luca. Countless friends and acquaintances were touched by her spirit, warm presence and pride in her family. She transcended the role of mother through the care and companionship of her youngest child Joanne until her passing.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 22 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Church 485 Alling Street, Kensington. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery New Britain. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of the Mass at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain.
