Obituary of Joseph P. Mel

Joseph P. Mel, 92, of Bristol, died Sunday at Bristol Hospital. Born in Berlin, he lived in Plainville, many years in New Britain and became a Bristol resident in 1984. He was employed at Fafnir Bearing for 40 years, retiring in 1979. He was the husband of the late Mary (Chesanek) Mel. A well known licensed Ametuer Radio Operator, he was a Hamm radio operator, an instructor and had his call sign of KCIUP, and he belong to the Zuni Maritime Foundation. He was a World War II U.S.Navy Veteran, having served in World War II.
Mr. Mel is survived by two sons Joseph J. Mel and his wife Ingrid of Burlington, Gerald P. Mel of Bristol; four grandchildren Ronald F. Mel, Randall G. Mel, Wendy McLaughlin and Jeremy Mel; nine great grandchildren; a sister Ann Hudak of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers John, Frank, Marty and Andy Melescinsky.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 8:30 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church 195 So. Main St. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
