Obituary of Philomena Chiodo

Philomena Chiodo, 89, of New Britain, died Thursday (May 23, 2013) at her home. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Frank and Frances (Grande) Chiodo, she was a lifelong resident. A graduate of local schools, she graduated from St. Joseph's College and earned her Master's Dergree from Trinity. She was employed as an auditor and was the first female Tax Examiner for the State of Connecticut. After retirement she then became the Tax Collector for the Town of Enfield. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, where she was a reader, the AARP, the New Britain Senior Center, the Democratic Action Committee, was a world traveler and volunteered as a tax consultant.
Philomena is survived by a brother Anthony Chiodo of New Milford, a sister in law, Phyllis Chiodo of Berlin; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother John Chiodo and a sister Joanna Ryder.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
