Obituary of S. Sophia Penson

S. Sophia "Sophie" Penson, 105, of New Britain, died Tuesday Night at the Southington Care Center. Born in Waterbury, the daughter of the late John and Stephanie (LaSota) Stepeck and the widow of James Penson, who died Aug. 24, 1969. She had worked many years as a bookkeeper for the D & L Stores in New Britain. Prior to that, she worked in Massachusetts at Lever Brothers, W. J. Curtis and Son and at the U.S. Navy Yard. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and the Rosary Guild and Altar Society of the church.
Mrs. Penson is survived by two daughters Barbara Hackett of New Britain, Claire and her husband Rocky Albano of Southington; grandchildren Maryellen Hackett, Sue Hackett, Heather and her husband Richard Jackson, and Molly Albano and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday (Feb. 2, 2013) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church (corner of East St. and Newington Ave.) New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain.
