Charles A. Mercurio, 81, of New Britain, died Wednesday December 12, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital as a result of a traffic accident. He was born in New Britain and attended local schools. He was retired from Okay Industries and had previously worked at Macristy Industries. Charles was the beloved brother of P. Michael Mercurio and his wife Joyce of Meriden, Francis Mercurio of New Britain and his sister, Ann Zarotney and her husband Lawrence of Kensington. He is also survived by a nephew, several nieces and cousins, and his many friends at the New Britain Senior Center where he attended every day and will be sadly missed. Charles was very active as a volunteer at the Senior Center and was recognized as the Center's Volunteer of the Year for his willingness to help and assist others. He was predeceased by his parents Pellegrino and Frances Mercurio, a brother John Mercurio, two sisters Rose Maccotta and Lois Siderowf, and a nephew, James Mercurio. Funeral services will be held Friday 9:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Ann's Church North St. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
